The Treaty Governance Manager plays a lead role in supporting the implementation and revitalization of Onion Lake Cree Nation's Treaty-based governance system. Reporting to the Director of Treaty Law, the Manager is responsible for the day-to-day coordination of Treaty Governance initiatives, including law development, policy review, community engagement, and support to the Elders Advisory. This position guides the integration of Cree law and traditional protocols into governance processes, ensures alignment with Treaty No, 6, and works collaboratively across the Treaty Law Office departments to advance Nation-based self-determination.
Responsibilities:
Governance and Law Development
• Coordinate the drafting, review, and implementation of Onion Lake Cree Nation laws in collaboration with 
Elders, leadership, and legal advisors.
• Ensure all governance processes are grounded in Cree law and consistent with Treaty No. 6 principles.
• Support the development of internal governance policies, procedures, and capacity-building strategies.
Program and Staff Coordination
•Provide direction and oversight to program staff, including Elders Coordinator, Treaty Governance staff and 
administrative support.
• Coordinate timelines, work plans, and deliverables for Treaty Governance initiatives and community-driven 
priorities.
• Ensure smooth operation of Treaty Governance programming and contribute to office-wide planning.
• Meet frequently with staff to ensure smooth flow of implementation of Department strategic plan.
• Oversee the implementation of the human resource personnel policy to staff within the Department.
Community Engagement and Collaboration
• Lead engagement efforts with community members, youth, and Elders to ensure governance initiatives 
reflect the will of the people.
• Work collaboratively with other Treaty Law Office managers (Native justice, Membership) to ensure 
integration and consistency.
• Support facilitation of community meetings, workshops, and public information sharing.
Advisory and Reporting
• Provide regular updates and briefings to the Director of Treaty Law and leadership as required,
• Prepare written reports, summaries, and recommendations to support governance decision-making.
• Support the work of the Elders Advisory Body and ensure their guidance is respectfully incorporated.
Qualifications:
• Post-secondary education in Indigenous Governance, Political Science, Public Policy, Law, or a related field. 
Equivalent experience will be considered.
• Strong understanding of Treaty No. 6, Cree law, and Nation-based governance systems.
• Experience leading teams, managing projects, and coordinating across departments or organizations.
• Excellent wilting, communication, and facilitation skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with Elders, leadership, and legal/policy professionals.
• Fluency or working knowledge of Cree language and protocols is a strong asset.
• Valid Class 5 Driver's License and ability to travel as needed.
