Job Summary: The Security is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming environment within Onion Lake Cree Nation facilities and properties. Reporting to the Office Manager, the incumbent conducts patrols, monitors activities, responds to incidents and emergencies, assists employees, visitors, and community members, and supports the protection of community assets. The Security Worker collaborates with emergency services and other stakeholders to ensure the safety and well-being of staff and the public while maintaining confidentiality and compliance with established policies, procedures, and emergency response protocols.

Responsibilities: 

  • Monitor the Onion Lake Administration Office and surrounding facilities to maintain a safe and secure environment during assigned shifts.

  • Conduct security patrols by foot and Peacekeeper vehicle and provide stationary security services when assigned.

  • Respond to emergencies, incidents, fires, medical situations, and safety concerns in a calm, professional, and effective manner.

  • Administer First Aid, CPR, and Naloxone (Narcan); secure emergency scenes; assess injuries; and document treatment provided.

  • Follow all radio communication, reporting, and emergency response procedures, including notification and coordination with RCMP, Fire Services, EMS, and other agencies as required.

  • Assist with emergency response operations, search and rescue activities, evacuations, lockdowns, and fire response procedures within Onion Lake Cree Nation and other jurisdictions when requested.

  • Collaborate with Onion Lake Fire & Rescue and other emergency response partners during incidents and emergencies.

  • Maintain accurate records, incident reports, daily logs, and required documentation.

  • Maintain physical fitness, readiness, professionalism, sound judgment, and confidentiality while handling sensitive or high-pressure situations.

  • Notify Administration staff of lockdowns and other emergency situations and perform other duties as assigned by the Office Manager.

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent.

  • Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence and reliable transportation.

  • Knowledge of security procedures and practices.

  • Successful Criminal Record Check and ability to pass a pre-employment alcohol and drug screening.

  • Strong anger management, conflict resolution, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Current Naloxone training (or willingness to obtain), WHMIS, H2S Alive, TDG, CSTS, EMR, Standard First Aid & CPR Level C, and Fire Extinguisher Training certifications.

  • Basic Security Training is considered an asset.

  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm and professional in emergency situations while maintaining confidentiality and sound judgment.

  • Ability to conduct patrols on foot and by vehicle, interact with community members, manage conflict situations, work overtime, shift work, and on-call assignments as required.

  • Ability to maintain the physical fitness necessary to perform security and emergency response duties and to wear the designated uniform while maintaining a professional appearance.
