Reports to: Director of Public Works

Job Summary:

The Roads Supervisor is responsible for the daily oversight and management of the Public Works Road Division, including staff, heavy equipment, and heavy trucks/trailers. The position ensures the effective delivery of road maintenance and infrastructure services through planning, supervision, training, and operational support.

Responsibilities: 

  • Provide daily supervision and direction to Roads Division employees.

  • Oversee the operation and maintenance of heavy equipment, trucks, and trailers.

  • Participate in work planning and program development to ensure efficient road maintenance and infrastructure services.

  • Conduct daily tailgate safety meetings with Roads Division staff.

  • Provide clear direction, guidance, and performance oversight to employees.

  • Train and mentor new employees on equipment operation, safety procedures, and departmental practices.

  • Operate heavy equipment and trucks as required to support operations.

  • Participate in monthly supervisor meetings and contribute to departmental planning initiatives.

  • Prepare and submit regular reports to the Director of Public Works.

  • Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety policies and procedures.

  • Coordinate and monitor road maintenance activities, equipment usage, and staffing requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in heavy equipment operation, road maintenance, or heavy truck operations.

  • Previous supervisory or management experience is considered an asset.

  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to lead and motivate staff in a team environment.

  • Knowledge of road maintenance practices, equipment operation, and workplace safety standards.

  • Valid driver's licence with the ability to operate heavy equipment and commercial vehicles.
