Employment Information

Responsibilities:

• Plan and deliver daily and structured youth programming within the youth hub

• Facilitate recreational activities, cultural programming, life skills, and mentorship-based activities.

• Support cultural engagement through collaboration with Elders and Knowledge Keepers.

• Assist with the coordination of tutoring, educational supports, and academic enrichment activities.

• Participate in planning and delivery of youth, family, and community events.

• Engage youth in positive activities that promote wellness, culture, and leadership.

• Maintain a safe, structured, and welcoming environment within the youth centre.

• Follow established safety procedures, routines, and supervision guidelines.

• Support staff in maintaining appropriate supervision of youth during programming.

• Respond to incidents, concerns, and behavioural challenges using prevention-based approaches.

• Work collaboratively with Oskāyak Empowerment Coordinator, Prevention Services, schools, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community departments.

• Support coordinated youth wellness and prevention programming.

• Assist in connecting youth and families to appropriate community resources and supports when needed.

• Participate in team meetings and program planning sessions.

• Track youth attendance, participation, and engagement in programming.

• Maintain accurate documentation, records, and basic program statistics.

• Support reporting requirements as directed by the Coordinator or Prevention Services.

• Always act as a positive role model for youth.

• Demonstrate respect for Cree culture, teachings, traditions, and community protocols.

• Act in a professional and respectful manner always and serve as a positive role model while representing Onion Lake Cree Nation.

• Perform other related duties as assigned by the OLCN Prevention Oskāyak Empowerment Coordinator.

Qualifications:

• Diploma or certificate in Youth Care, Human Services, Education, Social Work, or related field is considered an asset.

• Equivalent combination of education and experience working with youth may be considered.

• Experience working with First Nation youth in a community or recreation setting is required.

• Computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Canva and Xyntax

• Strong understanding of Cree culture, traditions, and youth development approaches.

• Ability to build positive relationships with youth and work in a team environment.

• Strong communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.

• Valid Class 5 Driver’s License is required.

• Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check are required.

• Ability to travel and work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as required.
