Job Summary: The Oskāyak Empowerment Coordinator for Onion Lake Cree Nation is a leadership position responsible for the overall coordination, supervision, scheduling, and delivery of youth hub programming. This role provides direction to Oskāyak Empowerment staff while ensuring programs are culturally grounded, safe, structured, and responsive to the needs of youth in the community. The Oskāyak Empowerment Coordinator ensures high-quality youth programming that supports wellness, culture, education, leadership development, and healthy lifestyles. This position also works closely with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, schools, community departments, OLCN Prevention and families to support holistic youth development. The Oskāyak Empowerment Coordinator reports directly to the OLCN Prevention Director.
Responsibilities:
• Provide leadership, direction, and supervision of Oskāyak Empowerment workers.
• Develop staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage for all programming and youth hub operations.
• Develop, train, support, mentor, and coach staff in delivering traditional/non-traditional youth programming.
• Oversee staff performance, attendance, and program delivery standards.
• Support team coordination to ensure consistent, safe, and engaging programming.
• Plan and oversee recreational activities, cultural programming, mentorship, life skills, and work collaboratively with OLCN Prevention.
• Coordinate tutoring supports, educational assistance, and academic enrichment programming.
• Organize youth engagement initiatives, family activities, and community events.
• Ensure safe, structured, and welcoming operations within youth centre environments at all times.
• Develop and enforce safety procedures, routines, and youth supervision standards.
• Respond to incidents, concerns, and behavioural issues in a professional and supportive manner.
• Ensure appropriate staffing levels and supervision ratios are maintained during programming.
• Track and monitor youth attendance, participation, and program engagement.
• Maintain accurate records, documentation, statistics, and monthly reports.
• Support program planning, evaluation, and continuous improvement processes.
• Assist with annual work plans and program development initiatives.
• Act as a positive role model and mentor for both youth and staff.
• Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and respectful conduct at all times.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the OLCN Prevention Director.
Qualifications:
• Diploma or degree in Youth Care, Social Work, Education, Human Services, or related field is considered an asset.
• Combination of education and significant experience in youth programming and leadership may be considered.
• Experience supervising staff in a youth, recreation, or community-based setting.
• Strong understanding of Cree culture, traditions, and youth development approaches.
• Proven leadership, organizational, and program coordination skills.
• Strong communication, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage schedules, staffing, and program operations effectively.
• Experience working with First Nation youth is required.
• Valid Class 5 Driver’s License is required.
• Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
• Ability to travel and work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as required.
