Be of the age of majority (21 years or older).
Have no criminal record and/or pending charges, as proven by a recent Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) check.
Be in good financial standing (not bankrupt).
Possess integrity and a commitment to ethical behavior.
Have broad professional experience (preferably at a management level), with an understanding of:
Family services and financial affairs.
The complexities of nonprofit organizations.
Have sufficient time to devote to board operations.
Must not be involved with other boards of Onion Lake Cree Nation.
Shall not have any other family members sitting on the Onion Lake Family Services Board.
Foster Parents or persons with children in care are not eligible.
Must be independent from the OLFSI, with no conflict of interest.
Ability to put forward ideas while respecting the views of others.
Capacity to analyze management proposals clearly and critically.
Ability to probe management proposals assertively, knowledgeably, and purposefully.
Clear communication skills.
Understanding of the fundamental and strategic needs of the organization.
Constructive participation in discussions.
Commitment to acting in the best interests of all members of Onion Lake.
Understanding of the balance between the Board’s role and that of management.
