Job Summary: The Nâpêwak Empowerment Facilitator for Onion Lake Cree Nation supports the wellbeing, empowerment, and healing of men, boys, and families through traditional/non-traditional prevention services and community-based programming. This position focuses on strengthening families, promoting healthy lifestyles, encouraging cultural connection, and creating safe and supportive spaces for men and boys within the community. The Nâpêwak Empowerment Facilitator plays a key role in delivering and supporting initiatives that reflect the values, traditions, and priorities of Onion Lake Cree Nation while working collaboratively with elders, schools, health services, and community partners. The Nâpêwak Empowerment Facilitator reports directly to the OLCN Prevention Nâpêwak Empowerment Co-ordinator and indirectly to the OLCN Prevention Director.

Responsibilities:

• Assist in the development & facilitate programs, workshops, support groups, and community activities for men, boys, youth, and families.

• Promote positive coping skills, mental health, cultural identity, self-esteem, healthy relationships, and overall wellness.

• Provide support, mentorship, advocacy, and referrals for men and boys accessing services and programming.

• Conduct outreach and provide prevention-focused supports to individuals and families facing barriers or challenges.

• Organize and participate in cultural, land-based, wellness, and recreational activities within the community.

• Create safe, inclusive, and culturally respectful environments that encourage healing, growth, and empowerment.

• Assist with connecting individuals and families to appropriate supports and community resources, when needed.

• Work collaboratively with schools, health staff, Elders, and external agencies to support holistic community wellness.

• Encourage community participation and engagement in empowerment and prevention initiatives.

• Maintain accurate, confidential documentation, statistics, monthly reports, and program records.

• Participate in awareness campaigns, community gatherings, and special initiatives that support the goals of Onion Lake Cree Nation Prevention Services.

• Uphold and respect Cree cultural values, teachings, traditions, and community protocols in all aspects of the role.

• Act in a professional and respectful manner always and serve as a positive role model while representing Onion Lake Cree Nation.

• Perform other related duties as assigned by the OLCN Prevention Nâpêwak Empowerment Co-ordinator.

Qualifications:

• B.S.W., B.I.S.W., degree in Human Services, Indigenous Studies, Social Work, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.

• Knowledge of Social Services, Prevention Services, and community-based wellness programming.

• Strong understanding of Cree culture, traditions, and culturally grounded approaches to healing and empowerment.

• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

• Experience in program planning, implementation, evaluation, budgeting, and reporting.

• Computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Canva and Xyntax.

• Knowledge and understanding of Prevention Services guidelines, ISC reporting requirements, and community support services.

• Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.

• The successful candidate must provide a Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check.

• Ability to travel and work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as required.
