Job Summary: The goal of the Nâpêwak Empowerment Coordinator is to support and empower men, boys, children, youth, parents, and families by collaborating with community Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and service providers to create nurturing, culturally safe, and supportive environments that promote positive outcomes within Onion Lake Cree Nation. The Nâpêwak Empowerment Coordinator is responsible for leading, supporting, and guiding Prevention staff in the coordination, development, and facilitation of culturally relevant prevention and empowerment programs that strengthen individuals and families within the community. The position reports directly to the OLCN Prevention Director and is responsible for providing monthly reports and program updates.
Responsibilities:
• Mentor and support staff in developing and facilitating programs and activities that improve outcomes for men, boys, children, youth, and families.
• Coordinate and assist in the delivery of workshops and programs focused on parenting, life skills, healthy relationships, self-esteem, empowerment, cultural wellness, and healthy coping skills.
• Support, supervise, and guide Prevention staff in providing services through programming, workshops, advocacy, outreach, and one-on-one support.
• Assist and advise staff on case planning to ensure individuals and families receive appropriate support services in collaboration with the Prevention Services Director.
• Coordinate community workshops, wellness initiatives, and empowerment activities in collaboration with community representatives and other OLCN departments.
• Provide a respectful, safe, culturally relevant, and trauma-informed environment that supports the wellbeing of all participants.
• Advocate for the needs of men, boys, children, youth, and families by connecting them with prevention services and community resources.
• Work collaboratively with other departments to avoid duplication of services while enhancing supports available to community members.
• Ensure the necessary supplies, equipment, resources, and funding are in place to facilitate programming and services.
• Monitor prevention programming budgets in collaboration with the OLCN Prevention Services Director
• Support program administration, documentation, monitoring, and evaluation processes.
• Assist with annual work plans, program development, and budget planning.
• Assist in completing monthly reporting requirements and program updates.
• Maintain collaborative relationships with schools, departments, and community partners to promote awareness and accessibility of prevention and empowerment services.
• Engage in effective communication with team members and senior management to ensure coordinated service delivery and accurate reporting.
• Act in a professional and respectful manner always and serve as a positive role model while representing Onion Lake Cree Nation.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the OLCN Prevention Director.
Qualifications:
• B.S.W., B.I.S.W., degree in Human Services, Indigenous Studies, Social Work, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
• Knowledge of Social Services, Prevention Services, and community-based wellness programming.
• Strong understanding of Cree culture, traditions, and culturally grounded approaches to healing and empowerment.
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Experience in program planning, implementation, evaluation, budgeting, and reporting.
• Computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Canva and Xyntax.
• Knowledge and understanding of Prevention Services guidelines, ISC reporting requirements, and community support services.
• Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
• The successful candidate must provide a Criminal Record Check (CPIC) with a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC).
• Ability to travel and work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as required
