Job Summary: The mechanic is required to perform skilled tasks in the mechanical repair and maintenance of heavy trucks, earth movers, and related construction equipment including graders, loaders, dozers, gasoline and diesel-powered tractors, garbage trucks, dump trucks, water and sewer trucks, trailers and hitches.
Responsibilities:
Repair and adjust hydraulic pumps, safety valves, and other mechanical components.
Inspect, repair, and adjust gasoline and diesel-powered units.
Perform incidental welding on equipment as required.
Follow all workplace safety policies, regulations, and compliance requirements.
Report unsafe conditions, accidents, or injuries to the supervisor in a timely manner.
Continuously improve operations, reduce turnaround times, streamline work processes, and provide quality customer service.
Diagnose defects in heavy-duty equipment.
Perform mechanical repairs in the shop and respond to road calls when required.
Operate automotive servicing equipment in the shop and during road calls.
Install new and added-on equipment.
Perform electrical and hydraulic troubleshooting and diagnostics.
Accurately complete work orders, timecards, and maintenance documentation.
Repair cooling and lubrication systems.
Install and align engines and machinery.
Repair mechanical transmissions, drivetrains, and final drives.
Repair cable-operated attachments, winches, compressors, pumps, electric generators, and related equipment.
Test repaired equipment to ensure proper performance.
Clean, lubricate, and perform routine maintenance work.
Provide guidance and instruction to apprentices.
Maintain knowledge of changes in technology and repair techniques.
Perform other mechanical repair duties as required.
Qualifications:
1–2 years of experience as a Heavy-Duty Mechanic or in a related role.
Willingness to pursue additional training and certifications.
Possession of required safety tickets/certifications.
Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
Strong mechanical aptitude, including experience with hydraulic and electrical systems, schematics, and diagnostics.
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Experience performing routine maintenance and servicing operations.
Highly flexible with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to interact with others in a professional, tactful, and respectful manner.
Proficient in basic computer applications and systems.
