Position: Labourer – Solid Waste | Department: Public Works – Solid Waste |
Job Classification: Full-Time (Safety Sensitive) | Reports to: Public Works Director |
Job Summary:
Responsibility for workplace safety, cleaning and maintenance of the grounds and building, and ensuring roads and building entrances are kept clear of debris. The Labourer must be familiar with landfill procedures, understand safety standards for dangerous goods and proper storage practices, and be able to follow directions with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities:
Perform various physical labour duties as assigned at the landfill site.
Maintain cleanliness of the roadways and entrance by removing debris.
Direct garbage trucks and the public to appropriate dumping locations.
Assist with large garbage haul pick-ups.
Support the Landfill Monitor in sorting recyclable materials.
Assist with emptying and handling recycling bins.
Collect and dispose of litter throughout the landfill area.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Physically fit and able to work in all weather conditions.
Ability to lift and move heavy objects.
Experience operating small engine equipment such as forklifts and skid steers.
Knowledge of sanitation processes and applicable regulations.
Basic understanding of operational procedures and safety practices.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Possession of required safety tickets/certifications.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Ability to operate a manual transmission vehicle.
