Employment Information

The Human Resources Officer provides advice and direction to directors, supervisors and staff. This may include providing information on the OLCN personnel policies and procedure manual, matters affecting staff, training and development, performance appraisals, employee assistance program, substance abuse testing, Canadian Labour Code Standards (Federal).

 

Roles & Responsibilities: 

  • Provide information and assistance to staff, supervisors and Council on human resource and work-related issues.
  • Liaison with Program Department management to identify personnel needs across all positions, including the possible creation of new positions.
  • Maintain current knowledge of Pay Equity, human rights, labour legislation changes and employment standards guidelines and laws. 
  • Making public presentations regarding the organization and job opportunities; coordinating staff participation, set up, and working at job fairs when required internal, external and websites.
  • Advice managers and employees on staffing policies and procedures, conduct OLCN Policy and Procedure Manual Orientations.
  • Coordinate and prepare Health and Safety investigations. 
  • Coordinate and prepare complaint investigations for programs and employees.
  • Promote workplace safety.
  • Interpret Policies pertaining to Onion Lake Cree Nation employees, Canadian Labour Standards to managers and employees.
  • Review Personnel Policy, Drug and Alcohol policy, Employee Assistance program and make recommendations for changes.
  • Organize staff training sessions, workshops and activities.
  • Process employee requests for outside training while complying with policies and procedures.
  • Must be able to mediate.

 

Qualifications: 

  • Diploma/Degree in Human Resources or another appropriate field preferred.

  • Minimum of 3 years of administrative experience.

  • Demonstrated interviewing and training skills.

  • Understand and speak fluent Cree is an asset.

  • Valid driver's license.

  • Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Proven ability to build and maintain lasting relationships with departments and employees.

  • Excellent ability with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Experience working in a result focused environment.

  • Exceptional conflict resolution, negotiation and objection handling skills. 

  • Able to respond quickly in a dynamic and changing environment. 

  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines and organizational goals. 

  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
