Job Summary: The Community HSE (Health, Safety & Environment) Coordinator is responsible for promoting and supporting a strong culture of health, safety, environmental stewardship, and community well-being across organizational operations and community-based programs. This role works closely with employees, contractors, community members, leadership teams, and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with applicable HSE regulations, policies, and best practices while fostering safe and sustainable community engagement.

Responsibilities: 

  • Support the implementation and maintenance of HSE policies, procedures, and programs. 

  • Conduct workplace and field safety inspections, hazard assessments, and risk evaluations.

  • Monitor compliance with occupational health and safety legislation and nation standards.

  • Assist in incident reporting, investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action tracking. 

  • Maintain HSE records, statistics, and documentation. 

  • Coordinate emergency response planning, drills, and preparedness activities. 

  • Promote safe work practices through coaching, mentoring, and awareness campaigns. 

  • Serve as a liaison between the organization and local communities regarding HSE matters.

  • Participate in community meetings, outreach events, and awareness initiatives. 

  • Support culturally respectful engagement and relationship-building with community stakeholders. 

  • Assist with addressing community concerns related to health, safety, and environmental impacts. 

  • Collaborate with local organizations, schools, and agencies on safety and wellness initiatives.

  • Support environmental monitoring and compliance activities. 

  • Assist with waste management, spill response, environmental inspections, and reporting.

  • Promote environmental sustainability initiatives and community awareness programs. 

  • Ensure environmental incidents are documented and communicated appropriately. 

  • Coordinate and deliver HSE orientations and training sessions.

  • Develop educational materials, toolbox talks, and awareness campaigns. 

  • Promote continuous improvement through employee and community education programs. 

  • Track training participation and certification records. 

  • Prepare HSE reports, metrics, and presentations for leadership and stakeholders. 

  • Maintain confidential records and ensure accurate documentation. 

  • Support audits, inspections, and regulatory reviews. 

  • Assist with contractor safety management and compliance tracking.

 

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Public Health, Community Development, or a related field. 

  • Relevant HSE certifications preferred (e.g., COR, NCSO, CRSP, CSTS, WHMIS, First Aid/CPR). 

  • Minimum 2–5 years of experience in health, safety, environmental, or community coordination roles. 

  • Experience working with community stakeholders, Indigenous communities, or public-sector organizations is considered an asset. 

  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and ability to travel to community or field locations as required.

  • Strong understanding of occupational health and safety legislation and environmental regulations. 

  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills. 

  • Ability to build trust and maintain positive community relationships. 

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities. 

  • Experience conducting inspections, investigations, and training sessions. 

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and HSE reporting systems. 

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in diverse environments.
