Job Summary: The Home Fire Empowerment Facilitator for Onion Lake Cree Nation is a front-line position that provides direct, culturally grounded in-home and community-based support to parents, caregivers, children, and families. This role focuses on strengthening families, promoting safe and healthy home environments, and supporting caregivers through mentorship, advocacy, and connection to community resources. The Home Fire Empowerment Facilitator delivers hands-on, strengths-based, and trauma-informed services while working collaboratively with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, schools, health services, community departments, and external agencies to support holistic family wellness and positive outcomes. The Home Fire Empowerment Facilitator reports directly to the OLCN Home Fire Empowerment Coordinator and indirectly to the OLCN Prevention Director.

Responsibilities:

• Deliver in-home family support services to parents and caregivers through mentorship, advocacy, and strength-based guidance.

• Build trusting relationships with families through regular home visits and community outreach.

• Support parents and caregivers in developing healthy routines, parenting skills, communication, and family wellness practices.

• Provide one-on-one support, encouragement, and practical guidance to strengthen family functioning.

• Facilitate the intake process in collaboration with Home Fire coordinator and Prevention Service Director

• Connect families to community resources, programs, and services based on their needs.

• Support families in accessing prevention services, housing supports, health services, education, and cultural programming.

• Facilitate or co-facilitate parenting workshops, cultural programming, and family wellness activities.

• Participate in prevention awareness campaigns, community events, special initiatives that support the goals of OLCN Prevention Services.

• Promote positive coping skills, mental health, healthy relationships, cultural identity, and family strength.

• Participate in case planning, goal setting, and service coordination with the prevention team.

• Respond to family needs through outreach, support visits, and crisis intervention when required.

• Collaborate with community-based departments, schools, health services, Elders, and service providers to ensure coordinated support for families.

• Transporting families to and from appointments/workshops and events, when required.

• Maintain accurate, confidential documentation including case notes, statistics, and monthly reports.

• Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and collaborative planning sessions.

• Uphold Cree cultural values, teachings, traditions, and community protocols in all service delivery.

• Maintain respectful, professional, and supportive relationships with families and community members at all times.

• Perform other related duties as assigned by the Home Fire Coordinator.

Qualifications:

• Diploma or certificate in Social Work, Human Services, Indigenous Studies, Community Support, or related field is considered an asset.

• Combination of education and relevant frontline experience may be considered.

• Experience working with First Nation families, children, and caregivers in a community or home-based setting.

• Strong understanding of Cree culture, traditions, and family-centered approaches to wellness and healing.

• Strong communication, relationship-building, and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to work independently in the field and as part of a team.

• Experience supporting families in crisis or high-need situations is an asset.

• Computer literacy, including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Canva and Xyntax.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.

• Valid Class 5 Driver’s License is required.

• Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check are required.

• Ability to travel and work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as required.
