Job Summary: The Home Fire Empowerment Coordinator for Onion Lake Cree Nation provides leadership, coordination, and oversight for in-home family support services within the community. This position focuses on strengthening families, promoting safe and healthy home environments, and ensuring parents and caregivers receive mentorship, advocacy, education, and connection to community resources. The Home Fire Empowerment Coordinator is responsible for developing, training, supervising, and supporting Home Fire Empowerment staff while ensuring services are delivered in a culturally respectful, trauma-informed, and family-centered manner. This position works collaboratively with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, schools, health services, community departments, and external agencies to support holistic family wellness and positive outcomes for children and families. The Home Fire Empowerment Coordinator reports directly to the OLCN Prevention Director.
Responsibilities:
• Develop, train, supervise, and coordinate Home Fire programming and in-home family support services for parents and caregivers.
• Facilitate and coordinate the intake process in collaboration with Director.
• Provide leadership, mentorship, guidance, and ongoing support to Home Fire staff and family support workers.
• Ensure culturally grounded, strength-based, and trauma-informed services are delivered to children, youth, parents, and families.
• Oversee in-home family support services, including mentorship, advocacy, outreach, and referrals to community resources.
• Support staff in case planning, family goal setting, crisis intervention, and service coordination.
• Collaborate with community-based departments, schools, health services, Elders, and external agencies to ensure coordinated family supports.
• Coordinate parenting workshops, cultural programming, family wellness initiatives, and community-based activities.
• Promote healthy parenting practices, positive coping skills, mental health, family strengthening, and overall wellness.
• Participate in prevention awareness campaigns, community events, special initiatives that support the goals of OLCN Prevention Services.
• Ensure accurate and confidential documentation, including case notes, statistics, monthly reports, and program records.
• Support program evaluation, monitoring, reporting, and continuous quality improvement processes.
• Assist with annual work plans, program development, funding requirements, and budget monitoring.
• Ensure necessary supplies, equipment, and resources are in place to support programming and in-home visits.
• Participate in case conferences, team meetings, and collaborative planning sessions as required.
• Advocate for families to ensure access to prevention services, housing supports, health services, education, and community resources.
• Maintain respectful, professional, and collaborative relationships with families, staff, and community partners.
• Uphold Cree cultural values, teachings, traditions, and community protocols in all aspects of service delivery.
• Act in a professional and respectful manner always and serve as a positive role model while representing Onion Lake Cree Nation.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the OLCN Prevention Director.
Qualifications:
• Diploma or degree in Social Work, Indigenous Social Work, Human Services, Community Support, Family Support, or a related field is considered an asset.
• Combination of education and relevant supervisory experience may be considered.
• Experience working with First Nation children, youth, families, and community-based prevention services.
• Supervisory or leadership experience in family support, prevention, or community wellness programming is preferred.
• Strong understanding of Cree culture, traditions, and family-centered approaches to wellness and healing.
• Strong written, verbal, leadership, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Experience in program planning, coordination, reporting, and staff supervision.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and ethical boundaries.
• Ability to work independently, collaboratively, and in crisis situations.
• Computer literacy, including MS Word, Excel, email, Outlook, Canva and Xyntax
• Valid Class 5 Driver’s License is required.
• Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check are required.
• Ability to travel and work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as required.
