Responsibilities:
• Acts as the main point of contact for the FireSmart Program.
• Seeks and administers new FireSmart grant opportunities.
• Coordinates public education work being completed through the Community Resiliency Investment (CRI) funds.
• Creates internal, external, and public communication related to FireSmart activities. • Recruits, supervises, coordinates, and provides training for FireSmart personnel.
• Organizes Onion Lake Cree Nation participation at community events such as Community Wildfire Preparedness Day, local sporting events, school presentations, and more to engage with the public and distribute FireSmart information.
• Organizes, plans, and participates in community fuel mitigation events.
• Provides direction and assistance to implement FireSmart principles on private and community land areas. • Coordinates FireSmart Home Ignition Assessments within the area.
• Recruit motivated community leaders who can be mentored to work with self-organized groups of citizens as they plan and implement wildfire mitigations in their own neighborhoods.
• Facilitates FireSmart 101 Sessions.
• Creates a SmartFire working group, Community FireSmart Committee, and Resiliency Committee within the community of Onion Lake Cree Nation and hosts monthly conference calls.
• Collaborates and coordinates with other FireSmart Committee member agencies and other First Nations Fire Departments in the surrounding area in regard to FireSmart.
• Coordinates opportunities for staff to continue education in wildfire behavior, structure ignition, wildfire hazards in the Wildland Urban Interface, and FireSmart mitigations for reducing wildfire risk.
• Ensure adherence to the FireSmart Marks Usage and FireSmart Brand Guidelines.
Qualifications:
• Needs to have a blend of education and experience in emergency management, forestry, or a related field.
• Two years of related leadership experience, including supervisory, facilitation, and contract management experience.
• Completion of Incident Command Systems (ICS) Level 1-400 level.
• Wildland Firefighting Type 3. Preferably having a Wildland Firefighting Type 2.
• Certifications (or acceptable equivalent)
• Knowledge of fire prevention, FireSmart, and emergency preparedness programs.
• Knowledge of fire and public safety education, fire service operation, and emergency management.
• Ability to effectively deliver educational and outreach materials to a variety of audiences.
• Some knowledge of Microsoft and social media applications software.
• Completion of FireSmart 101.
• Completion of the Wildfire Risk Reduction Course.
• Local FireSmart Representative qualification or willingness to attain.
• First Aid.
• Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
