Job Summary: The Fire Chief is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating policies and procedures for the operation of a fire fighting service. The Fire Chief must plan, direct and coordinate firefighting strategies for the fire departments. Must also direct the training of personnel in firefighting methods and develop/oversee the implementation of fire prevention campaigns. The Fire Chief represents the fire department in communications with the government, the media, and the public. Can demonstrate the ability to motivate and lead teams. The individual will manage the day-to-day operations and financials of the FRP Program and effectively coordinate personnel and coordinate emergency incidents in the OLCN community.
Responsibilities:
Assist in the smooth operation of computer systems, equipment and machinery, and arrange for maintenance and repair work.
Respond to fire alarms and other calls for emergency assistance, such as automobile and industrial accidents and other emergencies.
Control and extinguish fires using manual and power equipment, such as axes, water hoses, aerial ladders, and hydraulic equipment and various firefighting chemicals.
Administer first aid and other assistance.
Ensure proper operation and maintenance of firefighting equipment.
Inform and educate the public on fire prevention and fire smart.
Assist the public, the police and emergency organizations during times of major disasters.
Supervise and coordinate the work of other firefighters.
Document and record nature of injuries and illnesses and treatment provided.
Qualifications:
Some secondary school education is usually required.
Class 5 Driver's License, Fire Truck License - Class 1
Experience in the occupation supervised is generally required.
Completion of a provincial or municipal firefighters training course is required.
EMR, Fire prevention and training methods, technology and equipment.
Knowledge of emergency services, security, fire, rescue, and peacekeepers.
Punctual, reliable and willing to work flexible hours is a requirement.
Time management and supervision skills.
Knowledge of training and supervisory techniques.
Knowledge of principles of labor relations and equal employment practices.
Ability to ensure hazards are identified and proper steps are taken.
Ability to perform strenuous tasks (muscular strength, coordination and endurance) Must be physically fit
Able to provide reports verbal and written, must be able to understand financials and budgets.
Overall, must be honest, truthful and confident.
ICS 400 Certification is a requirement.
First Aid, CPR "C", EMR Training, WHMIS, H2S, TDG, CSTS, HAZMAT & Security training are an asset.
