Employment Information

The Community Engagement Coordinator supports the Treaty Law Office, an amalgamated office composed of the Treaty Governance, Native Justice, and Membership departments. This role involves planning and delivering engagement sessions, creating accessible materials, coordinating with community members and leadership, and ensuring the will of the people remains at the center of all governance initiatives. The Coordinator plays a key role in building relationships, facilitating dialogue, and creating space for community voices to be heard and respected across all departments.

Responsibilities: 

• Plan, organize and facilitate community meetings, workshops, develop surveys, and engagement sessions focused on Treaty rights, Nation governance, and law development 

• Develop culturally relevant and accessible materials e.g. posters, visuals, handouts, videos to support community understanding and participation 

• Ensure meetings are welcoming, respectful, and inclusive of Elders, youth and all community voices. 

• Manage outreach and communications for the Treaty Law Office 

• Maintain and update community contact lists and engagement calendars 

• Share summaries and outcomes of meetings with the community in clear and timely manner 

• Manage and update the Treaty Law Office’s social media pages with regular posts and engagement updates 

• Coordinate distribution of posters, flyers, and event information across the community 

• Work with the local radio station and podcast platforms to share governance updates and encourage participation 

• Develop, administer, analyze, and report on community surveys to gather input and evaluate engagement 

• Work with leadership, researchers, Elders and department staff to ensure engagement activities are aligned with Treaty principles and community values 

• Act as a Liaison between the Treaty Law Office, other OLCN departments, and community members • Assist with evaluating engagement effectiveness and making improvements 

Qualifications: 

• Diploma in engagement and/or Indigenous relations or related field, equivalent experience or training 

• Strong understanding of Treaty Six, Cree culture, and community governance 

• Experience planning or coordinating events, meetings, or community programs 

• Strong written and verbal communications skills 

• Ability to work with Elders, Youth and Leadership in a respectful and collaborative manner 

• Strong organizational skills and time management skills 

• Proficient in basic office software (Word, Excel, email, social media) 

• Ability to speak and understand Cree is an asset
