Employment Information

Job Duties: 

• Communicate with Elder’s to assess services for elders needs 

• Communicating with the Elder’s family and having them engage positively regarding the Elders needs 

• Work as an Elders liaison for hospitals, and medical care in need of translators. 

• Consult with doctors, therapists, and medical professionals if requested 

• Encourage Elders in community involvement. 

• Plan Elder's activities monthly and Elders trips quarterly. 

• Assist with finding and contacting appropriate services in the community. 

• Assist with forms and applications and billing inquiries. 

• Able to write and submit proposals to secure monies for the Elders program. 

• Instruct patients' families of the mental health conditions to strengthen their main support systems. 

• Explain the social aspects of mental disturbances to families and community agencies involved. 

• Maintain records and able to provide monthly reports. 

• Assist clients in their continuing adjustment to the community and evaluate their need for further care and the potential need for placements. 

• Maintains sustainable working relationships with community agencies, schools, law enforcement, and courts. 

• Will be responsible for taking care of On Reserve Elder's utilities and rent, as well as Off Reserve monthly allowance 

• Perform related work as assigned. (literally could be changing a light bulb) 

Requirements:

• Knowledge of human services as well as an accounting background 

• Valid Class 5 driver's license is required. 

• Xyntax experience 

• Excellent assessment, interviewing, and counseling skills. 

• Expertise in mental health and substance abuse areas preferred. 

• Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances require and must know when to recommend a client for further medical assessment. 

• Ability to speak, translate, and interpret the Cree Y dialect is an asset 

• Computer literacy, including effective working skills in MS Word, Excel, and e-mail required. 

• Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times. 

• Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment. 

• Able to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently. 

• Good organizational, time management, and prioritizing skills. 

• High level of sound and independent judgment, reasoning, and discretion 

• Strong morals and ethics, along with a commitment to staff privacy. 

• Interacts with residents, family members, staff, visitors and government agencies. 

• Travel is required. • Manual dexterity is required to use a desktop computer. 

• Overtime as required. 

• Intermittent physical activity including walking, standing, sitting, lifting, and supporting patients.
