Job Summary: The Caseworker is responsible for managing a caseload and delivering professional support services to social assistance clients in accordance with the INAC Program Manual and the OLCN Personnel Policy Manual. This position involves regularly meeting with clients to assess needs, collect relevant information, determine eligibility, and establish appropriate levels of support. The Caseworker may also conduct home visits and is responsible for maintaining accurate, detailed, and up-to-date case notes and documentation. In addition, this role provides support services to clients participating in SAET (Social Assistance Employment & Training) and ETC (Employment & Training) programs, including assistance with educational opportunities, skills development, and trades-related training.
Responsibilities:
Receive and process client applications, including medical forms and hospital visit requests, ensuring all documentation is verified and completed accurately.
Provide employee referral forms as required.
Conduct pre-audits of decision sheets and perform case-by-case assessments of client income to determine eligibility for income support.
Complete Budget & Decision (B&D) sheets for approval and prepare cheque requisition forms for processing.
Investigate prior sources of assistance for new clients, including social assistance, post-secondary funding, or other income supports.
Prepare and distribute monthly Social Assistance payments, as well as Special Needs Requests as required, including participation in on-call duties.
Monitor and regulate client eligibility for Social Assistance while maintaining strict confidentiality at all times.
Provide services in emergency or catastrophic situations, including availability during evenings and weekends when necessary.
Maintain accurate, up-to-date client files and ensure proper file management practices.
Conduct home visits for verification purposes and to assess special needs requests.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Post-secondary education in Social Work or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in the Human Services field.
Knowledge of applicable Indigenous Services Canada (ISC), federal, and provincial legislation and regulations related to social services.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with access to a reliable personal vehicle for work-related use.
